Coaching or Mentoring, what is right for me?

Coaching

  • Coaching is task orientated​

  • Coaching is short term with a specific task related goal

  • Coaching is performance driven

  • Coaching does not require design

An example of coaching would be if you need to develop a new skill to exceed but you are unsure on how to go about it.

Mentoring

  • Mentoring is relationship orientated

  • Mentoring is long term where the goal may not be discovered for some time

  • Mentoring is driven by development 

  • Mentoring requires a design phase to establish the purpose of the mentoring

An example of mentoring â€‹would be if you or a group of people are seeking to develop their leadership and management skills so they are confident to take on their first position of responsibility.
